The Digital World allows us to learn in ways that we never
could have imagined.

Smartphones, tablets and other digital devices have created
a digital world that provides amazing lifelong learning
opportunities for seniors.

This slideshow supported a presentation that demonstrated:

1. Why learning is important for seniors.

2. Three major developments that are transforming education.

3. The integration of Flipped Classrooms, Online Learning
and Mobile Learning in future U3A courses.

4. The use of the Digital World to create a more social and
interactive learning environment for U3A members.

SLIDE 32
1. Choose a topic for your U3A workshop and use Google to search the Digital World
for workshop resources that include videos, articles, web sites.
OR
2. Browse ‘Available Anytime’ courses from the Digital World’s virtual universities for
a course on which to base your U3A workshop.
Virtual universities providing ‘Available Anytime’ courses include KHAN ACADEMY ,
ITUNES UNIVERSITY (iTunesU available via iTunes)
COURSERA ON-DEMAND and FUTURELEARN .

Note: Workshop participants may be required to register to access a virtual university’s
free course resources. You may prefer to select a course’s module/s rather than use
the entire course.

3. Review the course/module content and select the resources you will recommend to
workshop participants for prior reading and viewing.
4. Prepare questions that will encourage workshop discussions. Have questions that
relate to the topic generally and questions that are specific to the workshop’s resources.
Questions should be open ended and designed for a range of learning levels.
Refer to these examples of open ended questions at different learning levels.
5. Prepare games that will encourage competition, interaction and fun between breakout groups.
Games should be relevant to the workshop’s topic and resources.
For example trivial pursuit, crosswords, scrambled words.
6. Prepare your workshop delivery strategy. For example i) Introductions, ii) Presentation of
workshop goals, iii) Topic introduction, iv) Form breakout groups and ask for volunteers to
take notes and moderate discussions and activities. v) Moderators present breakout group summaries,
vi) Present follow-up activities.
7. Send welcome emails to workshop participants providing links to resources for prior reading and viewing.
8. Facilitate your workshop.
